“Allen Ginsberg” is a 53 inch x 58 inch mixed media work by the father of video art, Nam June Paik. Nam June was a friend, mentor and a personal inspiration for many things, including building TV Robots.
Name June gave me “Allen Ginsberg” as a birthday present in 1997. For many years it hung in the lobby of Post Perfect, generating a wide range of reactions, from: “WOW. Is that a Nam June Paik?” to “Why does this picture have a fucking hole in the guy’s head?”
It originally used a small Sony NTSC TV which displayed analog snow from between broadcast TV channels. The TV failed around 2008. As the TV was no longer available I replaced it with a display showing my first video art piece, “Modulated Horizontal Lines” a work that Nam June loved. I’m sure he would be very pleased.
